Lyra
To start off my Chicago food tour this weekend, Lucy took us to a new, Greek restaurant in Fulton Market called Lyra.
Because it was so new, Lyra was super packed and had a great atmosphere for a Thursday night. We started the meal with cocktails, and I ordered the Santorini Spritz with Bombay gin, Aperol, otto’s Greek vermouth, and lemon juice. This was a different take on a normal Aperol Spritz, but it was still refreshing and had fruity flavors.
My cousin, Hope, had never tried oysters before, so we knew we had to try them. We ordered the Oysters Two Ways one with crispy tempura, tarama, and caviar and the other was raw with orange, kalamata olive, and shaved red onion. The flavors on the oysters were delicious!
We wanted to try a bunch of different items, so we ordered the Prawns Saganaki with blistered feta, tomato, garlic, and ouzo; the Charcoal Grilled Meatballs with smoked yogurt, tomato, and mint; and the Feta Stuffed Sausage with blistered shishito peppers.
All of these were delicious and super meat, cheese, and tomato sauce heavy. Everything had amazing flavor and I loved it all.
Jacob wanted to order the Mykonian Anice Crusted Pork Chops which were on a 600-degree Himalayan sea salt stone and had gremolata and Florina pepper romesco. The dressings that came with the pork chops added amazing flavor and it was great.
Throughout our meal, we had seen an interesting dessert go by our table many times. We decided to order the same thing to see what the hype was about. In the Bougatsa were crispy pillows, cinnamon ice cream, semolina custard, and honey caramel.
The waitress came and mashed the entire dish together, so I could not get a picture, but the presentation was the best part of the dessert.
We also ordered some Espresso Martinis with cinnamon in them which was a great touch. The drinks were great and had a delicious coffee flavor.
I loved all of the food and drinks that I tasted at Lyra. The atmosphere was great, and it was nice to see a restaurant super crowded before the weekend. I definitely would go back to try some of the other dishes because they all looked incredible.
