Antiche Carampane
For our first meal in Venice, we were able to squeeze in a reservation for Antiche Carampane. Our tour guide had said it was an amazing restaurant, so we were incredibly excited to be able to eat there on such short notice.
We began the meal with a bottle of wine — Sauvignon 2019, Az. Agr. Aquila del Torre which was delicious. The chef also gave us a little taste of the menu with an item that was similar to a crab cake.
For an appetizer, we ordered the Prosciutto which came with some bread and pickled vegetables. The prosciutto was so flavorful that we just ate it by itself. It was super salty and delicious.
For our main course, we both ordered the special of the day — Sea bass. The fish tasted incredibly fresh and all of the flavors on the plate tied together perfectly.
Because we knew we could not go a meal without some pasta, we split the Spaghetti con scampi, mazzancolle alla busara e crema di impepata di cozze. This was basically spaghetti dressed with spicy sauce and had tomatoes and clams on top.
For dessert, we both had a cappuccino because 1. we thought that is what Italians do, and 2. we were tired and needed a pick-me-up for the rest of the night.
Antiche was the perfect place for our first meal in Italy. We were told that we must eat seafood in Venice, so trying the catch of the day was just the icing on the cake.
