Bar Sotto
Bar Sotto had been on my list for some time, and it didn’t disappoint as the ideal spot for after-work drinks and bites. As a speakeasy-style bar, I wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of atmosphere, but the space was buzzing with a lively happy hour crowd.
We kicked things off with cocktails. I opted for the Red Reaper, a mix of tequila, Cointreau, lime, Calabrian chili syrup, and thyme. The spicy kick from the chili syrup perfectly balanced the citrusy notes, making it an instant favorite. Another standout was the Reggiano, a creative blend of parmesan-infused vodka, coffee liqueur, and espresso. Despite its unconventional ingredients, the flavors worked perfectly, and I was pleasantly surprised by how smooth it was.
For appetizers, we indulged in the Cacio e Pepe Arancini and Burrata, both excellent companions to our drinks. The arancini had a delightful truffle essence, while the burrata was perfectly creamy, served with speck, balsamic, and crispy bread that tied everything together beautifully.
To complement the evening, we enjoyed glasses of prosecco, served crisp and bubbly in coupe glasses—my personal favorite for its vintage charm.
Though we initially planned to stay just for happy hour, Bar Sotto’s inviting atmosphere and exceptional menu kept us there well into the evening. With its creative cocktails and delectable bites, it’s a gem in the Loop that I’ll definitely revisit to explore more of the menu.
