Cafè Mochiko
Wow – Café Mochiko surpassed my expectations with the delicious baked goods they offered. I had been wanting to try this café but had never made my way over there yet, so I am happy I finally did.
Café Mochiko is an Asian American restaurant with unique and delicious baked treats and drinks. I originally was intrigued by the Ube Halaya Croissant, but I ended up trying more than that.
Once I saw all of the displays of baked goods, I knew I had to try multiple items. I ended up trying the Ube Halaya Croissant, Mt. Fuji, and the Strawberry Mochi. All of these were amazing and I enjoyed every bite.
I love mochi, but I had only ever tried it from the grocery store, so I was excited to have a more authentic mochi. It was so delicious, and the texture was very interesting. It had a strawberry on top with some sort of chocolate filling and, of course, the mochi dough. It’s definitely a lot better when you get it fresh than from the freezer section at Kroger.
The Mt. Fuji was basically a tiny monkey bread cake with powdered sugar on top. I had not had monkey bread in years, and it was super tasteful. The caramelized butter/sugar on the outside was an amazing texture, and it was a perfect size.
I saved the Ube Halaya for last, and I was genuinely surprised with how good it was. The cream in the middle was delicious and had the taste and texture of creamy icing.
I looked on the internet what exactly ube is, and apparently, it's a purple yam jam. It was almost too pretty to eat with the vibrant purple on it, but it was delicious.
I also tried a milk tea, which I didn't love because of the strong flavor of herbal tea in it, but I'm happy I gave it a shot.
Overall, Café Mochiko surpassed my expectations. Everything on the menu was delicious and it was all something that I had not really tried before. I will definitely be keeping my eye out for some more Asian American bakeries to try the delicious food.
