Cakes and Pastries by George
There are so many bakeries in every city, so it’s difficult to decide which ones exactly to go to for the day. For my Saturday bakery run, I decided to go to Cakes and Pastries by George.
Initially, I wanted to try this bakery because I saw on the website they had creamed horns – which are a favorite of mine, but when I went there were many things I wanted to try.
They also were sold out of creamed horns by the time I got there.
My problem is that I don't want to go to a bakery at 8 a.m. to get to pick and try everything. I always go too late, and they end up being out of some of the best items. I didn't let that ruin my moment because I found such delicious treats there.
I decided to try the chocolate-dipped madeleine cookie, chocolate ganache macaroon, and the black raspberry chip cupcake. I had never had a madeleine cookie, but I had seen it before so I was excited to try and pleased with the taste of it. The macaroon was delicious, and probably one of the best that I have had – I loved how chocolatey it was.
I have to address this to fellow Cincinnati or Northern Kentucky people – what is the hype about black raspberry chip? I usually am not a raspberry mixed with chocolate person, but that flavor is literally everywhere I go here, so I always end up trying it.
I’m assuming that this bakery is known for its “cupcakes” because there were so many in the shop. I chose the black raspberry chip one, and it was basically a mini two-layer cake. The cake part was super good and was denser than I expected. It almost had the thickness of an angel food cake.
The best / worst part of this bakery was that they only accept cash and I didn't have any on me. Luckily, rather than driving back to my apartment to grab my wallet, the sweetest woman paid for my treats. I was trying to refuse, but she told me I couldn't leave without trying one of the cupcakes – I’m happy I accepted her offer.
Although the bakery is about 20 minutes from downtown, it was definitely worth the drive. Once again, I would love to go there again before items sell out, but that may not happen.
