Dirty Martini
Not necessarily a restaurant article, but a martini article instead. I have been wanting to try a martini for a while now, but never would bite the bullet and actually do it.
After dinner on Friday, my roommate and I decided to go to a nice restaurant – we chose Boca – to sit at the bar and enjoy our first martini tasting. We got to Boca and there was no room at the bar, so the host sat us at a giant booth.
I have to preface that if you do not know what Boca is, it’s a nice restaurant in Cincinnati and my roommate and I just took up a table on Friday night to order a martini.
We sat down and told the waitress that we basically just came for a drink and she gave us the information on how to order a martini. We both ordered a “dirty martini served up,” which basically meant a vodka martini with vermouth (olive juice) in a chilled martini glass.
The first sip of the martini was actually pretty good, we both liked the saltiness and I did not even flinch or make a face while sipping it.
I realized I had spoken too soon because once I got about halfway done, the thought of drinking olive juice was haunting me. I guess that the next time I order a martini I should just take the first sip and be done with it.
Grace and I did order off the dessert menu to accompany the drink – mainly as a chaser. We ordered the Candy Bar 3.0 which was delicious. The bar had a brownie, chocolate, caramel, and peanut butter ice cream and was the perfect distraction for my taste buds.
Overall, I am happy that I tasted a martini after talking about trying one for a while. I realize that martinis are not my thing, and that is why I will be sticking to Aperol spritzes and margaritas for the time being.
Also, I will be trying Boca’s food one of these days. The menu looks delicious and I have heard great things about it…coming soon.
