Funistrada
We are embarking on my favorite restaurant ever – Funistrada.
I have been going to this restaurant ever since I was born, and it probably is the reason I have sparked such a love for food and dinner experiences. I have been eating lobster ravioli from Funistrada since I was about five years old which explains my enjoyment of such nice food.
This is one of the restaurants that my family loves so much that we try to eat there as much as possible. I was lucky to be able to go to Funistrada twice which I was visiting Michigan which meant that there was a whole lot to try.
My sister and I have loved trying all of the different, local wines here in Michigan, and one of our favorites is the Sparkling Brut Rosè, Mawby Sex. It is so perfectly bubbly and just really delicious. I also tried the Rosè – Arcturos from Leelanau, Sauvignon Blanc – Haras “Albaclara’, from Chile, and the Pinot Noir – LaCrema from Monterey.
The first time going to Funistrada this year I ordered the Anniversary Chicken which has sautéed chicken breasts, baked with asparagus wraps, and mozzarella cheese in a white wine sauce. This is one of the classic dishes from Funistrada and is always one of my go-to's. It is super lemony and has incredible flavor in it. The prosciutto-wrapped asparagus also adds an amazing and tasteful touch.
My second time at Funistrada this trip I had to order the Bistecca Balsamico which is the New York strip steak coated in cracked pepper and drizzled with balsamic reduction.
This is another dish that I wish I could describe how good it actually is. In the best way possible, it almost tastes like you are eating dessert because of the thick, sweet balsamic. The crunch on the outside is the most perfect texture, and all around it is just a phenomenal steak.
Here is another picture just because the steak deserves the recognition.
My parents also ordered some great dishes, my favorite being the lasagna Bolognese which was amazing. My dad ordered the chicken saltimbocca and then the special for the night which was penne pasta with Italian sausage and broccoli all tossed in a spicy garlic sauce.
Also with the entire dining experience – the bread, salads, and mussels are delicious. Funistrada is the first place I ever tried mussels, and they are now one of my favorites. I also love the house salad because of the yummy dressing and salami topping.
Now – in my opinion – Funistrada is not the best known for desserts. Although I have tried the cannoli which is pretty good and the caramel pecan cheesecake, which my dad loved.
Funistrada is simply one of the best parts about coming to Glen Arbor. Since my family has been going there for so long, it feels like we are part of the “regulars” which is a nice feeling when you are on vacation. All of the food is delicious and it 100% is the best option for dining around Glen Arbor.
