Maize
Maize is a restaurant that has been on my list since I moved to Cincinnati, so I finally got the chance to try it a few weekends ago.
I started the dinner by ordering the Dulce y Amargo — spicy margarita. This one was delicious with tequila, guanabana juice, sour, and jalapeño.
Of course, I love some elote, so we ordered the Elote de Feria which was grilled corn, mayo, sour cream, sweet pepper sauce, queso fresco, and cayenne. It was delicious, but a little bit hard to eat corn on the cob at a restaurant.
One of the main reasons I wanted to try Maize was for the empanadas they serve. I decided to try the Camarones Empanada with garlic shrimp, lime, onion, green peppers, and cilantro. Grace ordered the Carne Empanada — which was recommended by the waitress.
We also ordered the Caribbean Braised Pork Cachapa. This was my favorite part of the meal because it was surprisingly delicious. The best way to explain it is that it was pork, tomato, guasacaca, cheese, and mayo all on top of a cornbread pancake. It sounds a little odd, but all of the flavors were fantastic together and it was super unique.
I am happy that I was finally able to make my way to Maize, and I loved that I was able to try a bunch of new flavors of foods that I had not had before.
