Noriko Handroll Bar
I’ve had handrolls before, but dining at a handroll bar was a first for me, so I was excited to experience Noriko, a new addition to Chicago’s sushi scene. Located in a basement setting, Noriko offers an intimate dining experience where guests sit facing the chefs, watching their handrolls prepared.
I kicked off the meal with the Puncha Matcha, a cocktail made with gin, melon, matcha, lime, and clarified milk. The flavors were light, refreshing, and perfectly balanced.

For an appetizer, I ordered the Nori Chips and Dip, featuring edamame hummus, chili crunch, and scallions. This dish was unexpectedly incredible, with the spicy chili crunch adding heat to the creamy hummus. The crispy nori chips made for a unique and delicious pairing.

I opted for the Chef’s List, a selection of five handrolls, including yellowtail, California roll, bluefin tuna poke, scallop dynamite, and bluefin tuna toro. Each roll was wrapped in crispy nori with warm sushi rice, and the flavors were enhanced by a variety of toppings and sauces. My personal favorite? The Scallop Dynamite—a rich, flavorful bite with the perfect amount of spice.
Wanting to try a premium roll, I ordered the Wagyu Tataki, featuring seared Wagyu beef with wasabi and soy sauce. While delicious, I found myself favoring the fresh fish rolls even more.

Noriko exceeded my expectations, offering one of the best sushi dining experiences in Chicago. From the interactive setup to the high-quality seafood and bold flavors, every dish impressed me. Whether you’re a sushi lover or trying a handroll bar for the first time, Noriko is a must-visit spot. I’m already looking forward to my next visit to explore more of the menu!
