PearlStar Oyster Camp + Bar
I love when a new restaurant opens in Cincinnati, especially when it has different types of food options and concepts than other restaurants.
The inside of Pearl Star is nautical to the extreme. You are transported into Florida and it was a fun, exciting atmosphere. The food matches the environment inside with the summery drinks, and, the reason I wanted to try Pearl Star so bad, oysters.
We started the meal with some cocktails, an Aperol Spritz for Grace and “The Sun Also Rises” for me which had Espolon Reposado, Lemon, Mint, and Rosè. My drink was refreshing and unique with the rosè and tequila.
Grace had never tried oysters Rockefeller, so I had to introduce her to them. They called them baked oysters at Pearl Star, so I’m assuming those are Rockefeller. The oysters had butter, herbs, and breadcrumbs that made them flavorful and the texture was great.
We also had to get some raw oysters, of course. We asked the waitress to recommend which oysters to get and just went with it. The sauces for the oysters were the best part.
There was a chimichurri, horseradish (which I don’t even like, but I tried this one and it was pretty good), cocktail sauce, and some spicy pepper sauce that was phenomenal.
After all of the oysters, we wanted to try some more of the food. We started with the Brussels Sprouts which had a Koji Crema and Grana Padano. Not sure what either of those items is, but the sprouts were so good because of the sauce/glaze on them.
We also ordered the kale salad that had bread crumbs and cheese on it with a super tasteful and creamy dressing.
Of course, I had to try an Aperol Spritz for a few reasons.
Grace got one, so I needed to try as well.
This place had Aperol signs all over the place; it was calling my name.
Pearl Star is a great addition to Cincinnati. The environment of the restaurant was lively and fun which makes it more enjoyable to dine there. I loved the different flavors of foods that I tried and everything tasted super fresh.
Pearl Star: 4.5/10
